Controlling site access isn’t just about efficiency — it’s about safety, security, and professionalism. This week, the FME team successfully completed a new automated barrier installation for a brand-new client in Gilberdyke, East Yorkshire. As with all our projects, this one was handled end-to-end: from groundwork and electrical supply to final install and rigorous testing.

It’s a perfect example of how FME combines civil engineering and electrical contracting into one seamless package — saving time and reducing the number of contractors needed on site.

Groundworks, Install, and Electrical Supply

The first stage of the job involved excavation and civil engineering to prepare the ground for installation. Correct foundations are essential for barrier systems — not just for structural integrity, but also to ensure long-term reliability and resistance to weather or vibration from vehicles.

Next came the electrical element. Our engineers installed a dedicated power supply to support the barrier system, routed via safe underground containment to comply with electrical regulations. The control panel was positioned for operator convenience and fitted with built-in protection against overload or surge.

We used high-quality, commercial-grade components throughout to guarantee durability and minimise the risk of system failure.

Barrier Systems and Safety Compliance

Modern barrier systems offer more than just a rising arm. They’re a fundamental part of site safety planning — especially in settings where vehicular movement and pedestrian access need to be strictly managed.

Did you know? Most insurance policies for commercial premises now recommend or require physical access control measures as part of a risk reduction strategy.

The system installed in Gilberdyke will now help:

  • Reduce unauthorised vehicle access

  • Prevent tailgating and accidents

  • Enhance compliance with Health & Safety best practice

  • Improve on-site traffic flow

It’s a smart investment that pays off in terms of reduced risk and a more professional image for the client.
