Night Shift Success: Carriageway Resurfaced at Busy Yorkshire Retail Park

Busy retail environments don’t stop for construction and neither do we. FME was recently contracted to carry out a fast turnaround carriageway resurfacing project at a popular Yorkshire retail park. The work was completed safely and efficiently over two night shifts, avoiding disruption to trade and ensuring public access remained unaffected.

Importantly, the job was delivered despite adverse weather conditions, a challenge we often face at this time of year. But with careful planning, experienced crews and the right equipment, we kept everything on track.

Our scope included civils, drainage, surfacing, speed ramp formation and full lining works, all delivered in-house by our experienced team.

Aco Drain Removal and Reinstatement

The job began with the removal of approximately 20 metres of damaged Aco drainage. These were removed, the channels cleaned and prepped, and the new

Aco units reinstated to provide effective surface water control.

Proper drainage is critical for high traffic areas like this, where heavy rainfall and vehicle movements can cause premature surface wear if water isn’t channelled properly.

New Speed Ramps Installed for Safer Traffic Flow

To improve traffic calming within the park, two new speed ramps were installed and tied into the new surface course. Supporting signage was added to ensure clear visibility and compliance with site safety protocols.

50mm Resurfacing Across Carriageway

The full width of the main carriageway was planed and resurfaced to a depth of 50mm, giving a clean, consistent and durable finish. The new surface improves ride quality for vehicles, reduces noise, and helps extend the life of the road.

Lining Works to Complete the Job

As the final stage, all road markings and directional arrows were reinstated, ensuring clear flow through the retail park and a professional finish.

By working through the night – and through challenging weather, our team delivered a full civils and surfacing solution with zero impact on daily operations. It’s another example of how FME adapts to the needs of live environments.
